According to the US media motor1 July 5th, the German marine electric outboard engine manufacturer Torqeedo will use the BMW i3 lithium-ion battery to produce electric motors.
The BMW i3 battery pack is part of the Torqeedo Deep Blue marine inside and outside engine. According to Torqeedo, current vessels can travel at least 5 hours at 5 mph and 30 minutes at extreme speed. The Deep Blue motor is available in 44 hp and 89 hp, as well as a conventional and petrol marine engine with 40 hp and 80 hp.
Among them, Torqeedo currently sells a 30.5 kWh battery pack for $3,1999 (approximately RMB 217,600), from the BMW i3. The Deep Blue engine is priced at $23,999 (approximately RMB 163,200). Torqeedo also offers the Deep Blue hybrid engine for ships up to 160 hp, including solar panels on board.
In 2016, BMW partnered with Beck AutomaTIon to further utilize the i3 battery pack to solve energy reserve problems. Consumers can choose a new battery pack or a reassembled battery pack. In the same year, BMW upgraded the i3 powertrain to a capacity of 33 kWh. This allows the electric hatchback to reach a range of 184 kilometers.
In addition, there are spy photos, the current upgraded i3 is under development, or includes a sports version. It has a power of up to 200 hp and a peak torque of 184 lb-ft, while the current models are 168 hp and 184 lb-ft. As the battery pack is upgraded, the car's cruising range will increase accordingly.
BMW's current electric vehicle strategy is mainly focused on increasing the cruising range of the car, rather than creating new electric models such as the i3. It is reported that the next generation of i products is expected to be unveiled in 2021.
