According to the Reuters August 1, Power Integrations company and Casambi Technologies OY jointly issued a new reference design (DER-612) in San Jose, California. This is a power factor corrected constant voltage (CV), constant current (CC) 12 W isolated flyback power supply for smart lighting applications. The 3.3 V power supply in this design powers the Casambi CBM-001 Bluetooth® wireless module, which provides convenient dimming and color management management for four-string LED loads from 0 mA to 400 mA. The power supply supports a wide input voltage range of 90 VAC to 265 VAC and achieves a power factor of 0.8 or higher at all input voltages.
The design is based on Power Integrations' InnoSwitch-CH power controller, which integrates the primary, secondary and feedback circuits into a surface mount off-line flyback switch IC. The IC integrates not only the primary side power FET, the primary side controller and the secondary side synchronous rectification controller, but also the Power Integrations magnetic induction coupling technology, FluxLink. This technology allows the device to be safely connected across the perimeter of the via isolation strip, eliminating the need for an optocoupler. Secondary side control enables high precision constant voltage regulation and ultra fast step load response, while simple PWM control eliminates the need for a secondary DC/DC regulator. The IC's high efficiency and low standby power consumption eliminates the need for additional heat sinks and allows customers to design solutions that meet DOE-6 energy efficiency standards. A built-in secondary side auxiliary power supply output is used to support the RF and MCU control circuitry.
The CBM-001 is a Class 2 embedded Bluetooth 4.0 module designed for LED lighting control applications, luminaires and LED bulbs. It has built-in Casambi proprietary firmware and is fully compatible with other Casambi devices. With the Bluetooth 4.0 protocol, the CBM-001 can be wirelessly controlled by the Casambi app for smartphones and tablets. These devices automatically form a self-healing and self-organizing wireless mesh network, so you can control a large number of lights from any point. Moreover, no additional gateway modules are required.
Hubie Notohamiprodjo, director of marketing for LED Lighting products at Power Integrations, said: “Intelligent lighting systems can monitor and control complex home and workplace lighting. The standby power required by the control subsystem often offsets the energy savings from high-efficiency LEDs. The combination of low quiescent current consumption and InnoSwich-CH's extremely low standby power optimizes overall system standby performance while ensuring instant illumination output."
Timo Pakkala, co-founder and CEO of Casambi, added: "The Power Integrations InnoSwitch-CH power controller is extremely efficient, especially at light loads. This ensures that our Bluetooth modules work continuously and efficiently in performance and The scalability aspect gives users a better experience."
