Sweden launches world's first Android TV

Last week, a Swedish TV maker released an Android TV. According to the company, this is the world’s first Android TV and said that this TV experience is like installing a giant smart phone on the wall.

The small private manufacturer called People of Lava, located on the west coast of Sweden, has released this new television in various stores in Sweden. It is known as Scandinavia. The company hopes to sell this TV in major overseas markets such as the United States next year.

Svantesson, chief executive of People of Lava, said that Internet-connected TV has been around for some time. Samsung, Philips and other vendors have all released it, but these devices are often “walled gardens” and the gadgets are all ahead of schedule. Set up online content, such as YouTube or a specific news site, cannot be viewed and downloaded freely like a laptop or smartphone.

But this Android TV will bring about changes. People of Lava management has been developing R&D since the concept of Android TV was proposed last summer.

I saw this show "Scandinavia" at the company's Stockholm sales office. Apart from voice calls, anything that can be done on a smartphone can be implemented on this TV. The main menu includes Google's Chrome browser, Facebook, YouTube, and Google Maps. At the same time, it also has its own program store, users can download other content. Borje Ljunggren, director of marketing for People of Lava, said that currently there are only 20 or so due applications in the store, but by the end of the year there will be more than 1000 because it can load many programs from the Android Market store on the Internet, as long as it can be adjusted to The screen size of the TV instead of the phone.

He said that the TV uses a fairly old Android 1.5 operating system, code-named cupcake, and the remote has a built-in keyboard. Ljunggren said the company designed a program that uses an Android phone to control the keyboard.

In addition to the functionality of smart phones, "Scandinavia" is itself a very beautiful TV. The television on display was a 55-inch flat-screen, made of a mixture of materials including a large amount of bauxite ore, so the fuselage was heavy, weighing about 40 kilograms.

The hardware design is very simple, composed of black and white gray, and the screen responds quickly when zooming or zooming in YouTube videos on Google Maps. Of course, the price is also taking the high road, 55-inch TV this price is 40,000 Swedish kronor (about 5833 US dollars).
