CSR recently announced that it will support Wi-Fi Direct on its latest connection platform, CSR9100. Wi-Fi Direct is an exciting new standard of the Wi-Fi Alliance, which provides a new way for Wi-Fi devices to connect to each other. Users can easily turn their mobile phones into mobile hotspots to achieve file sharing between devices, or use another device's 3G data channel.
The CSR9100 connection platform is specifically designed to meet the Wi-Fi Direct standard of the Wi-Fi Alliance. The product also supports the latest Bluetooth standard. The CSR9100 product family supports Bluetooth, Bluetooth low energy, high-definition voice (broadband voice), and Wi-Fi Direct, which can meet the wide-ranging needs of the mass market.
The Wi-Fi Direct standard supports two operating modes. In the first operating mode, a device will act as an access point (AP), commonly known as a hotspot, and a large number of Wi-Fi sites and devices can connect to it and share services. In the case where users can share 3G or 4G data channels with a large number of sites, this function also implements a "mobile hotspot" application, and the connection to the site is completed through Wi-Fi. The second mode of operation is based on a point-to-point connection. Even if neither the access point nor the router is available, the Wi-Fi device can directly connect to the group and complete tasks such as printing, synchronization, and shared resources. This option for direct and fast data connection provides maximum convenience for users.
Mobile network operators have long recognized the value of the hotspot feature, and they have released many devices that support this feature. Whether it is because of increased data traffic or because of increased monthly subscription fees, hotspot equipment will help operators get more profits. At the same time, it also provides maximum flexibility and convenience for end users in connection mode.
Cwar's Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Kanwar Chadha said: "CSR has always believed that technology standardization is the primary driver of popular applications. Wi-Fi Direct is consistent with our goals and can improve the consumer experience through more intuitive Wi-Fi connections. Combining our extensive experience in Bluetooth P2P connectivity, we look forward to helping customers successfully implement this new standard and accelerate the time to market for their products. "
Specification-based connections will work on typical Wi-Fi rates and ranges, and support WPA2 authentication security protocols and WMM® quality of service mechanisms. Wi-Fi Direct will provide end users with a full range of support, supporting traditional equipment, interoperability, and security that private "soft access point" operations usually do not have. Wi-Fi Direct supports "low power" performance, and can significantly increase the speed of mobile phones.
The core of CSR9100 is CSR's Synergy platform for Android (SfA) software. CSR's complete plug-and-play Android connection package supports Bluetooth, FM, Wi-Fi and GPS, and fully complies with the Bluetooth v3.0 standard. SfA ensures that CSR's latest Wi-Fi Direct product fully supports Android's latest 2.2 version.
As a new model of CSR Wi-Fi products, CSR6030 and CSR6031 will also support Wi-Fi Direct.
CSR has begun to design the CSR9100 connection platform, CSR6030 and CSR6031 products for many customers, and its finished products will be available in 2011.
