The nation’s first 500-kV Changshu South Substation adopting the “mirror image†arrangement settled in Changshu. The project officially began electrical construction in Changshu a few days ago. It is understood that this substation is also the first 500 kV intelligent substation pilot project in Jiangsu.
The 500-kV Changshu South Substation is mainly to meet the load development needs of Changshu, Zhangjiagang and Xiangcheng Districts, and to provide conditions for the 220-kilovolt grid division operation. According to the person in charge of the power supply company in Changshu City, the substation electrical system was used for the first time in the country with a “mirror†arrangement, that is, the general layout was divided into the North Station Area and the South Station Area. Two 500 kV substations with the same structure were connected side-by-side. In the construction, a 500-volt switchboard between North and South Stations is reserved for segmented switches. The connection between voltage levels is basically a direct connection. The two substations are like people looking in a mirror, hence the name “mirrorâ€. The two 500 kilovolt transformer substations connected and built have the advantages of saving land and saving equipment resources compared with the construction of two separate 500 kilovolt transformer substations. The total investment also reflects the design concept of resource conservation. It also satisfies the substation's external load demand. This is of great significance to the promotion of the economic development in Suzhou.
In the first phase of the project, three sets of 1 million kVA transformers will be built, namely, two sets of 1 million kVA transformers at the North Station and one set of 1 million kVA transformers at the South Station, and the final scale will be six 100 million kVA transformers. This is the first 500-kilovolt transformer substation with a total size of 6 transformers in Jiangsu Power Grid. The end of the 500 kV line of the South-North Station area will have 6 outlets each, and the 220 kV outlets will have 12 outlets each.
As a 500 kV intelligent substation pilot project in Jiangsu Province, the first 220 kV substation in Changshu’s substation uses electronic transformers for the first time to digitally collect currents and voltages, and accesses the smart units and protection devices via the merging unit. According to the IEC 61850 statute, the substation has also realized the integration design of AC and DC power supplies for stations for the first time in East China 500 kV substation. It is reported that it is expected that Changshu this "mirror" substation south station area will have operational conditions before the New Year's Day.
