At the time when Samsung Electronics repelled Apple, Sony and Panasonic to become the world's largest manufacturer of mobile phones, TVs and PC memory chips, there was a wave of competition among the Lee family.
It is reported that on February 2nd, the Korean court rejected the request of members of the Samsung Electronics Corporation’s Li Jianxi family to compete for the 4.1 trillion won ($3.7 billion) stake in the Samsung Group, thereby allowing Li Jianxi to retain control of the family business group. The Seoul District Court ruled that the 71-year-old billionaire Li Jianxi’s brother, sister and three family members failed to prove that they should acquire shares in Samsung Electronics and Samsung Life Insurance.
Li Jianxi’s brother Li Mengxi is 80 years old and Li Shuxi is 76 years old. They did not play any role in the group, but they appealed to the court in February 2012, claiming to be entitled to additional shares.
At the trial court in Seoul on May 30 last year, lawyers representing Li Mengxi and Li Shuxi said that the two men would try to regain the wealth of "they lost in an unfair situation." The other three relatives of Li Jianxi also filed a lawsuit.
In the first half of 2013, Samsung plans to convert all TV factories producing LCD TVs in Mexico and Hungary into LED TV production systems. The flat-panel TVs produced in 2012 by the Mexican factory with an annual output of 10 million units reached 20% of Samsung Electronics' sales in the global market (51.3 million units).
