User needs? Razer considers developing a Linux version of the game

[Abstract] Razer has supported Linux in Blade games, users can format solid state drives and install Linux operating systems. However, users have suggested that Razer release a game book with pre-installed Linux operating systems.

Tencent Digital (Wen Xin) According to the Digital Trends website, the company’s founder and CEO, Min-Liang Tan, said on Thursday that the company plans to introduce a Blade notebook model with Linux preinstalled. He said that supporting Linux is one of the users' most demanding requirements for Blade. Razer is considering this possibility. He asked all Linux "fans" to provide their feedback, suggestions and ideas.

Razer stated in Linux Corner's introduction, "We decided to set up a forum focused on Linux applications for gamers or other creators. Fans can discuss their experiences in the Linux Corner, provide feedback, discuss and run on Blade. Everything about Linux."

Blades supporting Virtual Reality are preinstalled with 64-bit Windows 10, but users can format the SSDs and install Linux-like operating systems such as Ubuntu or Valve Software's SteamOS platform. However, before Razer recently became interested in Linux, it did not support installing Linux on the Blade.

Digital Trends said that fans’ suggestions include porting Razer Synapse to Linux, providing Blade with dual boot options (Windows/SteamOS), and even developing their own version of Linux.

One user said, "I've been running Linux on the Razer Blade Pro 2013 for many years. It's running faster than Windows and it doesn't have any problems. I didn't have any problems running many Steam games. Recently, I started playing games. The Linux version of Unreal Engine 4 was used for development, and its operation was perfect."

The Razer Blade is aimed at PC players who prefer thin but powerful solutions. However, Chen Minliang said that Razer Blade series notebooks have become "many people's default programming equipment." This is particularly evident in the new Linux Corner, as developers also provide feedback on ideal Linux devices that meet their work needs.

Digital Trends stated that one user suggested that Razer develop a product that competes directly with the Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition. The XPS 13 version of Ubuntu 16.04 comes with a starting price of $1,000 (approximately RMB 6890), an entry-level model with an Intel Core i5-7200U processor, 8GB of LPDDR3 memory, a 128GB solid state drive, and a 13.3-inch full HD display. However, Razer Linux laptops may have higher configurations, such as larger display screens, discrete graphics, and M.2 NVMe SSDs.

The current Razer Blade laptop configuration is also quite good, configuration Core i7-7700HQ processor, GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, clock frequency of 2400MHz 16GB DDR4 memory and capacity of 256GB-1TB PCIe M.2 SSD, aspect ratio 16:9 full HD or 4K display. However, developers recommend Razer to use a 3:2 aspect ratio display in Linux models.
