Third quarter global semiconductor market grows 8%

Compared with the same period in 2013, Asia Pacific grew by 12.0%, Europe by 7.9%, and the United States by 3.7%, but Japan’s decline was 3.7%. If compared with August 2014, the United States grew by 2.8% and Asia Pacific grew by 2.5%, while Europe and Japan each decreased by 0.1% and 1.3%.

The Asia-Pacific region performed well under the leadership of TSMC, Samsung Electronics, and SK Hynix. Samsung Electronics Memory Semiconductor's revenue grew by 24.5% over the same period of the previous year, and SK hynix also grew by 6%. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. benefited from increased orders for iPhone application processors (APs), which saw a surge in revenue of 29%.

Due to the continuous growth of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, South Korea's ranking in the semiconductor market has also been boosted. According to the IHSTechnology data from the market adjustment agency, in 2013 semiconductor company revenue rankings, Samsung Electronics revenue grew by 13% from the previous year, maintaining the second place in the world; SK hynix surged from 6th to 5th with a 42.8% surge in revenue. name.

In contrast, Japan, a major semiconductor power in the past, has experienced a major decline. Japan’s Toshiba, which ranks seventh in the world, is the ancestor of NAND Flash. In the second quarter, NAND Flash revenue was reduced by 21% from the previous quarter.
