According to Bloomberg News, Sony will launch a full-use digital paper display. The design is more focused on fashion and the time to market is expected to be next year.
The media quoted sources as saying that the screen and strap of Sony's new watch will use electronic paper materials. This watch is more fashion-oriented in design and places the complex features of existing wearable devices at a secondary level.
Bloomberg said that this watch is one of the first products of the new department formed by Sony CEO Hirai Hirai. That is, Kazuo Hirai launched an innovative project called Seed Acceleration Program within the company, allowing employees to present ideas and make financing both inside and outside the company. Internal documents obtained by Bloomberg show that in the first round of solicitation in June, Sony received 187 applications, of which 80 went to the next stage.
It is understood that Sony is not the first time to introduce DigitalPaper display products. In September of this year, Sony officially launched a tablet computer called Digital Paper in the United States. The tablet is equipped with a 13.3-inch E-ink touch ink screen, priced at US$1,100 (approximately RMB6,757).
At IFA 2014, Sony also introduced a smart music bracelet named SWR30. This bracelet has a 1.4-inch electronic paper screen that can be used to handle functions such as call and voice control.
