Mobile device OEMs can use it to turn a smartphone into a TV remote

QuickLogic today announced that it is available for immediate delivery with the IrDA Infrared Remote Control, a proven System Module (PSB). This PSB module provides mobile device OEMs with a means to implement infrared remote control on their devices. It is low cost and has been verified in the system. Through this PSB module, OEMs can turn their smartphones and tablets into remote controls, manipulating all popular TV and home theater branded products. QuickLogic leads the way in low-power customer-specific standard products (CSSP).
This IrDA infrared remote control PSB module is designed for QuickLogic's programmable logic CSSP. The PSB module is used to connect the mobile device application processor to an infrared LED. Original equipment manufacturers use this technology to create distinctive hardware products that are different from their competitors, and one device has more uses and functions.
"We all have mobile devices, but many of the devices we use every day have only one feature. It's a natural evolution to integrate the capabilities of these devices," said Paul Karazuba, senior product marketing and media manager at QuickLogic. "With QuickLogic's IrDA Infrared Remote Control PSB module, the functionality of the remote control can be integrated into the mobile device, making this evolution creative."
The IrDA Infrared Remote Control PSB module is available now and is available as a CSSP product based on the PolarPro ® 3 or ArcticLink® 3 S1 Series solution platform. These platforms also integrate other functions such as LED control, I/O expansion, and SPI/I2C host integration to reduce material cost and increase board space.
The PufangTech VHF wireless modems operate in 147MHz to 174MHz and 220 to 230MHz frequency band. They can cover a range of 1 to 10Km through buildings and up to 50Km line of sight. It transmits and receives half duplex serial data at interface baud rates of 1200bps to 115200bps with narrow band digital frequency modulation.
The wireless modem can operate either as point to point or point to multi-point system. The configuration menu is a Windows based program running on PC.
