The ICS-8580 meets the growing demand for drones and their mission video requirements for transmitting bandwidth-limited interconnects. It uses a plug-and-play solution with minimal integration or software development.

The ICS-8580 XMC board is small, weighs 3.5 ounces, and consumes 10 to 15 watts of power. It can be deployed to meet the needs of aerospace and defense operations. The XMC board supports 2-channel high resolution video or 4-channel standard resolution video format. It uses an industry standard H.264 image compression codec and software supports reconfigurability such as the JPEG2000 format. Its input interface supports HD/ED/SD analog signals, analog RGB format in VGA to UXGA format, and digital formats such as 3G-SDI, DVI and maximum resolution of 1920×1080 pixels or 1600×1200 pixels.

GE's newly reinforced XMC module provides ideal image transmission for unmanned vehicles, making integration, risk control and cost control easier with embedded systems using new video standards

GE Intelligent Platforms released the enhanced video transport XMC module, the ICS-8580, which is powerful, compact, flexible and easy to use for video capture, compression and transmission. The ICS-8580 is designed for the rapidly growing video processing needs of driverless vehicles, which often require high quality video with limited bandwidth. The product design concept is easy to use, plug and play, minimal integration or minimal software development.

The ICS-8580 XMC module measures very small, only 100 g / 3.5 oz, and consumes very little power: 10 – 15 W. These features, combined with rugged design, allow them to be deployed in a wide range of military and aerospace applications. The product's flexibility also supports multiple video formats, providing dual-channel high-precision video or quad-channel standard-precision video. The ICS-8580 is equipped with an efficient industry standard H.264 video compression codec, but can be configured via software to support other standards such as JPEG2000.

Chris STopher Lever, global product manager for sensor processing and IO products at GE Intelligent Platforms, said: "The ICS-8580 makes the difficult, time-consuming and expensive applications simple, fast and economical. For contractors, system integrators and OEMs, ICS The -8580 uses innovative technology to provide a continuous competitive advantage, increasing customer productivity while reducing project costs and speeding time to market."

ICS-8580 supports analog input such as HD/ED/SD, supports analog RGB format such as VGA to UXGA, supports 3G-SDI, DVI and other digital input formats, supports HDMI, and has a maximum resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 or 1,600 x 1,200 pixels. An Altera? Arria? II GX FPGA combined with TI DSP signal processing provides powerful computing power on the video XMC platform.

Two TI TMS320DM6467 DSPs provide dual video streaming encoding capabilities up to 1080p H.264 (or JPEG 2000), with up to four SD input data compressed in parallel. The encoded data stream can be read via PCI Express® or directly as a Gigabit Ethernet RTP/UDP packet.

High-speed A/D devices: Supports up to 1,600 x 1,200 resolution for image format input and 1,920 x 1,080 resolution for HD video input, enabling digital input for multiple supported analog video formats. The FPGA controls data capture, routing, and can be applied in a variety of ways, while the TI DSP coprocessor provides efficient, smooth video data processing. FPGAs and DSPs can be customized to provide multiple video processing functions in the video input stream, as required by the customer.
