In order to meet the automotive industry's increasing demands for processing and integration performance, Freescale Semiconductor announced the launch of a next-generation 32-bit microcontroller specifically designed for automotive applications. The new Qorivva MCU series is based on Power Architecture technology and is built using a unique 55-nm non-volatile memory designed to increase the energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness of next-generation vehicles.
To date, shipments of 32-bit Power Architecture microcontrollers have exceeded 200 million. The Freescale Qorivva microcontroller is based on the Power Architecture core and is configured to meet the stringent requirements of the automotive environment. The new 55nm Qorivva MCU family addresses the major challenges facing the automotive market, including improving performance, meeting new safety requirements, and enhancing safety functions.
Reza Kazerounian, Vice President and General Manager of Microcontroller Solutions at Freescale, a smarter, safer, next-generation vehicle, said: “Qorivva MCUs are built using the industry’s most powerful automotive architecture and provide unique features in hundreds of devices. The extended performance of our 55nm Qorivva MCU new product line covers simple, low-cost, single-core controllers and the latest three- and four-core products to provide higher safety performance for the latest automotive applications."
Freescale not only improved the overall performance of its latest product line, but also helped automakers to create the safest vehicles by other measures. Multi-core microcontrollers help the system establish redundancy and provide fault monitoring and distributed control required by safety critical applications. Freescale categorizes microcontroller features and functionalities through a unique design process, so automotive manufacturers have all the necessary details required in a defined safety certification process.
Key Qorivva MCU Benefits Qorivva MCUs include advanced integration capabilities such as configurable peripherals for timers and motor control systems, while digital signal processing provides additional performance. With these features, Qorivva MCUs provide designers with an ideal solution that can be freely designed according to specific applications.
The advantages and features of the 55nm new QorivvaMCU product include:
* Improve the processing speed, can realize more complicated control algorithm and function.
* Increase on-chip memory capacity (flash memory and RAM), significantly reducing the need for off-chip memory.
* Intelligent Peripheral Sets Drive complex control systems such as transmission control solenoids, complex fuel injectors, and motors while minimizing the day-to-day management overhead of microprocessor cores.
* Improved embedded sensor interface to provide simple connectivity for next-generation automotive sensors.
* High-speed analog-to-digital converters designed to meet the different needs of the latest interfaces.
Tailor-made solutions for specific applications The 55-nm new Qorivva MCU family leverages Freescale's solid foundation in automotive innovation to tailor solutions specifically for specific automotive applications.
* Body and Safety Series - Provides low-power performance in "always-on" systems, advanced car networking in all connected products (such as LIN, CAN, MOST, FlexRayTM, and Ethernet), advanced through encryption Automotive network security.
* Safety and Chassis Series - Includes a multi-core advanced security architecture with fault monitoring and time recording. The error correction system is built for future fault-tolerant systems needed for fully automatic vehicles for maximum protection.
* Powertrain and hybrid system - built for maximum computing power, it is equipped with a high-performance multi-core MCU with advanced hybrid motor control peripherals that can be used in hybrid vehicles, while also providing high-precision simulation in analog sensors Interfaces and digital communication links. To meet the requirements of the next-generation powertrain system, many of the devices in this series are also equipped with Freescale's advanced security architecture.
Qorivva MCU's comprehensive ecosystem Qorivva microcontrollers have more than the strength and value of the chips. Each 55nm Qorivva MCU is equipped with a full run-time software solution that includes the AUTOSARMCAL driver suite and AUTOSAR real-time operating system for single- and multi-core MCUs. Qorivva MCUs also provide development tool support, including high-performance writer support from Freescale partners, multi-core debuggers, and Freescale's own CodeWarrior toolset.
The relationship between Freescale and the automotive electronics industry can be seen from the cooperation between Freescale and the Automotive Electronics Industry Association. Freescale is a founding member of the DSI, FlexRay, and LIN alliances, a senior member of AUTOSAR, and a permanent member of the PSI5, JASPAR, and GENIVI consortia. Freescale's Power Architecture products receive support from its global systems laboratories and software customization businesses.
