U.S. video game maker Valve recently acquired a VR audio company called Impulsonic, which created physics-based spatial audio location software for game developers.
Impulsonic's current product Phonon 3D is a software tool that allows developers to add two-channel 3D audio to their 3D environment and VR experience. 3D audio is an important part of the virtual reality experience. If there is no realistic audio effect, the immersive effect of the VR experience will be greatly reduced. Phonon 3D's dual-channel 3D audio algorithm complements the VR head tracking information, increasing the 3D audio experience, allowing developers to easily add 3D audio effects to VR content.
As a technical supporter behind the HTC Vive, Valve also clearly saw the value of Impulsonic's technology, acquired the company and absorbed the company's development team to continue developing 3D audio technology. Xiao Bian believes that Valve will integrate Impulsonic's VR audio technology in future VR technology. Although Valve did not announce the acquisition, Impulsonic’s official website disclosed the information.
Recently, our blog and Twitter are not enough to screen. Some of you are definitely wondering what we are doing. Well, today we are very excited to announce that we have been acquired by Valve!
Impulsonic said that the next few weeks will be relocated to the headquarters of Valve.
