South Korea's market research agency Displaybank recently released a global long-term report on the market for Bul/LED-backlit LCD panels. As the demand for LCD TVs, notebook computers and LCD TV panels continues to maintain a strong momentum, the demand for large-size backlight panels is boosted by 38.20 million in 2007. The number has doubled to 74 million in 2013, and the compound annual growth rate in the seven years is as high as 11.6%.
Displaybank predicts that the large-scale backlight global market will grow from an annual compound growth rate of 2.1% in 2007 to 12.746 billion US dollars in 2013 from 12.477 billion US dollars. It is expected that the market size this year will maintain a compound growth rate of 2.1%, but next year (2010) due to the large-scale application of LED backlight panels in the TV field, it is possible to achieve a high growth rate of 17.3%.
Displaybank said that although the current price of LED backlight panels is far lower than the initial stage of the market, the increase in demand has led to a market revenue of LED backlight panels that is about twice as high as that of cold cathode backlight panels (CCFLBLU). Displaybank expects that from next year, the price of LED backlight panels will enter a rapid decline channel as production increases, driving the large backlight panel market to reach an all-time high of $16 billion in 2011.
