Install Design Utilities
Before using report_failpast, make sure Design Utilities is installed. The installation method is to click Tools->Xilinx Tcl Store, as shown in the following figure.

report_failpast generate report
The report generated by report_failpast is divided into three parts: design characterization, clock checking, and critical path analysis, as shown in the following figure. Among them, in the design feature section, the report will give the recommended value of resource utilization. Once the recommended value is exceeded, the REVIEW flag will be displayed in the Status column. As shown in the FD (D flip-flop), the actual utilization is 57.66%, which exceeds the recommended value by 50%. At the same time, this part will also give a control set analysis (Control Set), which can help determine whether to reduce the control set. In addition, this section also shows for nets with fanout greater than 10K that are not driven by FD.

How to use report_failpast
In addition to the basic usage method (without adding any options), report_failpast also provides other options. For example, the -pblock option can be used to analyze whether the constraints corresponding to the Pblock are reasonable. This option can be used before layout (requires that Pblock specific position constraints have been provided), or after layout. Obviously, it is very meaningful to use it before layout, because it can determine whether the constraints of the Pblock are reasonable. At the same time, for SSI chips, this command also provides -slr and -by_slr options, which need to be used after layout. In addition, for the item whose Status is REVIEW in the report, you can use the option -detailed_report to generate a corresponding more detailed report. The specific usage method is as follows. For example, if DONT_TOUCH is in the REVIEW state, this command can generate the impl.DONT_TOUCH.rpt report, which can display cells using the DONT_TOUCH attribute.

-detailed_report impl -file failfast.rpt
Another feature of report_failfast is that it can be applied to the entire design or analyzed for a specific module. For example, using this command analysis for critical blocks in a design can pre-empt potential problems and accelerate timing closure.
